Rays would take Everett, at a price
Eyeing a chance to keep Carl Everett near his home, the Red Sox have been trying to find a place for their controversial center fielder with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Major League Baseball sources said yesterday. The Devil Rays have offered to take Everett, but the price would be steep for the Sox. Boston not only would have to eat much of the $17 million balance on Everett's contract through 2003 but would have to accept aging slugger Greg Vaughn and his $17 million salary through the same period.
