Caregiver or killer?
By Thomas Farragher, Globe Staff, 10/09/00)
If federal prosecutors are correct, 32-year-old nurse Kristen Gilbert is a calculating predator, nothing less than a serial murderer in a white lab coat who attacked her victims at a veterans hospital in Northampton with needles of poison. She struck, they say, as sick veterans lay in high-tech beds provided by their grateful government.

She liked to play the star
By Thomas Farragher, Globe Staff, 10/09/00)
During her trial, federal prosecutors will argue that Gilbert murdered for thrills and attention. She killed, they say, because she enjoyed the excitement generated by the cardiac emergencies, or "codes" as they are known in hospital parlance. She loved the spotlight they drew to her, she appeared energized by them.
