I'm ready to punch their ticket
(12/4/2001)
Super Bowl Patriots. There. I said it. None of this fraidy-cat, maybe-playoff talk for me. The 2001 Patriots are a team of destiny. They are Super Bowl-bound and I say this even though the Patriots are not being purchased by The New York Times Co.

Bowl gains
(11/28/2001)
NEW BEDFORD - Football coach Wayne Hamlet, a 28-year veteran at New Bedford High, never envisioned days like this. High school coaches used to worry about gum-chewing, smoking in the boys' room, and star players flunking algebra. Now they contemplate copycat carnage in their corridors of learning.

Support thrown his way, he doesn't drop the ball
(11/26/2001)
FOXBOROUGH - Forget about CMGI Field. After yesterday's win over the Saints, Jonathan Kraft announced that the new football stadium will be known as Brady Park. Then Patriots coach Bill Belichick said that unless something unforeseen happens, Tom Brady will play both ways the rest of the season: quarterback and free safety.

Holiday leftovers worth reheating
(11/24/2001)
Picked up pieces while avoiding the shoppers and drivers after Thanksgiving.

Brady's position isn't enviable
(11/22/2001)
FOXBOROUGH - All he wants to do is play football. It's what he's always done. He's confident, almost cocky, poised, and dedicated to the craft of playing quarterback. He didn't ask for all this other stuff.

Carrying on
(11/21/2001)
WELLESLEY - There is comfort in doing the things we've always done, and so in a changed America, Needham and Wellesley tomorrow morning will do what they've been doing almost every year since 1882. They'll play a high school football game on Thanksgiving.

Will loss signal QB controversy?
(11/19/2001)
FOXBOROUGH - It was a weird sight. Drew Bledsoe was healthy, but he stood on the sideline in uniform last night while Tom Brady went to work against the St. Louis Rams.

This can't get more ridiculous
(11/16/2001)
Carl Everett. Back in Fort Myers. Just like the bad old days.

He's forever Young
(11/16/2001)
There is no offseason for the woes of the Boston Red Sox. It's a 12-month, 24/7 business. Even in November, when the Celtics, Bruins, and Patriots are playing, we get daily reminders of the mistakes by Sox management.

Atmosphere is more electric
(11/12/2001)
FOXBOROUGH - Back in September, when life and death were the only things on our minds, the ever-serious National Football League debated what to do with its little postseason tournament. Who would have guessed that the ultimate decision would have any impact on football fans of New England?

Johnson shows he's not your average Joe
(11/10/2001)
He's still got the posters on the wall in his bedroom back home in Little Rock, Ark. There's Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Kobe Bryant, Scottie Pippen, Shaquille O'Neal, and Michael Jordan. Especially Jordan. Four or five of those. You can hardly see any wallpaper.

Jealousy rises in Phoenix
(11/6/2001)
PHOENIX - Witnessing the unbridled joy and innocence of 49,589 Arizona Diamondback fans celebrating a World Series victory in one of the best Fall Classics ever, I felt one thing ...

Like team, fans never gave up
(11/5/2001)
PHOENIX - They've only been a major league team for four years. They've got goofy colors and trendy fans who couldn't be bothered to fill their convertible ballpark for the first two rounds of the playoffs. And, of course, there's the pool in right field.

Sox manage to haunt Series
(11/4/2001)
PHOENIX - This from T.J. Quinn of the New York Daily News: ''The Arizona Diamondbacks presented themselves for edification this week, and after two nights in Yankee Stadium, a legacy has emerged: America, meet the new Boston Red Sox.''

Ultimate pitcher is in ultimate game
(11/4/2001)
PHOENIX - Roger Clemens tonight will start Game 7 of the World Series for the New York Yankees.
