His emotions in motion
(12/3/2001)
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - It was take-the-knee time for your New England Patriots, and in football it doesn't get any better than that. In the middle of the sideline celebration one guy was high-fiving half of North Jersey, pounding backs and slapping helmets with a big ol' smile plastered on his face. It was - maybe you should make sure you're sitting - Bill Belichick.
Pimentel's field goal lifts Whitman-Hanson
(12/2/2001)
Yo, Mr. Referee ... did you know the coach was standing in the middle of the field?
One opinion on ballot questions
(12/1/2001)
WARNING: This is a Glenn-free zone, in which we will not be dealing with selfish, ungrateful underachievers. The issue here is achievement. Any name you find henceforth will be attached to someone who can look back upon his career with pride.
Use of BCS does not compute
(11/29/2001)
The NCAA does not completely determine the national football champion in its most prestigious and competitive class on the field. You may have heard something about this.
Versatile Sidney rock solid
(11/25/2001)
Mom was in the house, so Penn State was in trouble before the game even began.
This catch will stand passing of time
(11/23/2001)
DANVERS - The play doesn't have a name. That's because it isn't even a play.
Proud Bledsoe is turned off
(11/21/2001)
FOXBOROUGH - The face was pure stone, but the heart was the same as always.
A big part of story: Class of the seniors
(11/18/2001)
NEW HAVEN - Hey, these guys are fun. I'm thinking about Harvard, but let's doff the ol' fedora to those Yalies, too. There undoubtedly were better pure football teams on display somewhere in this great land of ours yesterday, but until someone comes up with another game in which there were 158 offensive plays good for 985 yards in total offense and nine scoring drives ranging from 63 to 80 yards, not to mention a great (and crucial) fake punt/option play, let the record show that the 51,634 at the Yale Bowl got more for their entertainment dollar than any other pigskin fanciers in America.
Crimson victory would make their years
(11/17/2001)
Here is a partial list of the things that have happened since Harvard last went undefeated and untied in football:
Doctors second the opinion
(11/14/2001)
Fifty-one days after the fact, we finally got the lowdown on what went on when Mo Lewis put that ferocious hit on Drew Bledsoe.
Tossing and turning
(11/13/2001)
FOXBOROUGH There have been point guard controversies. There have been closer controversies. There's been many a goalie controversy. But in the big, wide, wonderful world of sports there is nothing, nothing, nothing that stacks up to a full-blown, roll-up-the-sleeves, draw-a-line-in-the-sand, so's-your-old-man, pity-the-coach Quarterback Controversy.
St. Pierre laments No. 1 that got away
(11/11/2001)
To Brian St. Pierre it was a loss, a jolting, painful, totally unacceptable loss. It was not some old-fashioned ''moral victory.''
Bach's vision All-encompassing
(11/8/2001)
What hasn't John Bach seen? Nothing, probably. The man was there when the NBA had a lower profile than the Afghan game buzkashi. He played 34 games for the 1948-49 Celtics. The man probably guarded Joe Fulks.
He was not as we remember him
(11/8/2001)
With 2:56 to go last night and the Celtics leading the Wizards by 5 (94-89), Michael Jordan had the basketball on the right wing with Paul Pierce in an isolated situation. In Ye Olden Days, the kid would have been at the great man's mercy, and it would not have been tender.
Lacking that sixth sense
(11/6/2001)
FOXBOROUGH - Six games into the Tom Brady Era, we are all waiting to discover something not to like. That brings up a question.
McGinest shows he's back from injury woes
(11/5/2001)
ATLANTA - How important is Willie McGinest to the Patriots? Here is the Richard Seymour take.
Great production by defense
(11/5/2001)
ATLANTA - Forget the numbers. It's not about the numbers. It's about the effect. It's about the results. The New England Patriots did more than just hang a 24-10 loss on the Atlanta Falcons here at the Georgia Dome yesterday. The Patriots punished them.
