By Steve Morse, Globe Staff, 11/29/2001 His son Enrique is tearing up the charts, but that doesn't mean that Julio Iglesias has gone out to pasture. Julio's timeless charm, and his considerable music legacy, can be experienced firsthand at Symphony Hall on March 24. Sure, it's a long way off, but expect tickets to go on sale soon. Lori McKenna won best new singer-songwriter at the 1999 Boston Music Awards, plus the Lilith Fair competition that same year. Her haunting voice has picked up admirers ever since and she is headlining two nights at the Somerville Theatre on Dec. 7 (with Rose Polenzani opening) and Dec. 8 (with Beth Amsel). Call 617-628-3390. Last year's reunion tour of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young was an all-around winner artistically and commercially. They rekindled their friendship _ and moreover, their mutual respect _ so they're planning to do it again. Look for a late winter date at the FleetCenter. No ticket details yet. Get ready for a biggie. Elton John and Billy Joel are touring again, each bringing a band, then sitting down for a number of tunes together. Expect the piano men to play the FleetCenter on Jan. 24 - and look for tickets to go on sale Nov. 17. The Somerville Jazz Festival has a strong offering at the Somerville Theatre on Nov. 29. Either/Orchestra, featuring Russ Gershon, shares a bill with Sherman Irby (an alto saxophonist who played with Roy Hargrove) and Charlie Persip. Tickets through Ticketmaster. The three-man Alloy Orchestra - featuring Roger Miller, Ken Winokur, and Terry Donohue - specializes in playing music to silent films. They'll be at the Somerville Theatre on Dec. 2, adding their unique touches to Harold Lloyd's "Speedy" at 1 p.m., and Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" at 4 p.m. Tickets through Ticketmaster or call World Music at 617-876-4275. |
