In order to accommodate third party requests for reprinting Globe or Boston.com material on other Web sites, we have worked out a system by which an article or other content belonging to us might be "teased" on another Web site, then linked back to a newly-created Boston.com page that would expire after an agreed period of time.     Some Requirements and Guidelines
    All requests must:

  • Be in writing
  • Identify the article or article(s) with headline and author’s name and date(s) of publication, if possible
  • Include copy of cartoon or graphic, if applicable
  • Describe the intended use of the reprint and estimated circulation of any republication

    General Policy

    Normal turnaround time is 5 to 7 working days from the receipt of request.

    The Boston Globe owns the copyright to material with the byline “Globe Staff” and to some material with the byline “Globe Correspondent.” Most material identified as “Globe Correspondent” is done by freelance writers, and permission to reprint their articles must come from the writers. If available, we will try to direct your request to them supply the freelancer’s telephone and/or address. Permission to reprint a wire service or syndicated article or cartoon should be directed to the syndicate or wire service.

    We cannot supply clean copies of articles. You may obtain a copy of any article by writing to the Globe’s library at the above address or accessing the archives section of our web site, boston.com.

    Back issues of The Boston Globe can be obtained for one month by writing to the Globe’s Back Issues department at the above address.

    The Boston Globe does not grant permission for electronic usage and reprints. This includes bulletin boards, web sites, the Internet or anywhere material can be widely disseminated. If you wish to establish a link to our web site, please contact boston.com at 617-929-7900.

    The Boston Globe may condition permission to reprint on payment of a fee.

    Frequent Reasons for Denial:

    We reserve the right to refuse requests to reprint Boston Globe material.

    We generally do not give reprint permission for:

  • Advertising sales, marketing or promotion, including most communications to current or potential customers or donors.
  • Advertising purposes
  • Electronic useage (see above)
  • Charitable fund-raising
  • Political purposes
  • Any context that might be construed as political or as an endorsement for any candidate for public office, any side in a political debate, or any organization with a primarily political purpose
  • Other commercial purposes
