PATRIOTS NOTEBOOK

His ribs weren't tickled

By Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff, 12/4/2001

FOXBOROUGH - Tom Brady's sore ribs, in his words, are ''no big deal.''

jfk_series_spons

Brady hurt himself in the third quarter of Sunday's 17-16 win over the Jets when he fell on the football while being tackled. Brady finished the game, playing in some discomfort. Right now, there's no reason to believe he won't be ready for Sunday.

''Give the kid a lot of credit, especially on that run [on third and 2 late in the fourth quarter],'' said coach Bill Belichick. ''It wasn't big in terms of yards, but it was big in terms of heart.''

Belichick gave the players yesterday and today off as a way of lessening the load this late in the season. Players are required to come to the facility on only one of the two days to work out; meetings and film work were canceled.

A three-hour tour

Terry Glenn arrived at the team's facility at 8 a.m. and stayed for about three hours. He likely will be asked to participate in practice when it resumes tomorrow. When asked about Glenn, Belichick said, ''This isn't going to be Terry Glenn day. We'll deal with that tomorrow.'' ... Glenn is scheduled to appear today in Wrentham District Court at a ''motion to dismiss'' hearing regarding the domestic incident last May at his Walpole home involving the mother of his child. If the motion is denied, Glenn must go to trial for misdemeanor assault ... Comparisons to '96? Belichick is having little of it. ''In '96, we had so many young players who were first- and second-year players,'' he said. ''Now we have a lot of players in the middle or later in the careers. I can't argue with the comparison that we started slowly and then we picked it up.'' ... The offensive line has put a gag order on rookie Matt Light. ''There was one on me when I was a rookie,'' said center Damien Woody. ''Every time we pick up the paper, we see Matt Light said this and that.'' Light wasn't around after the win over the Jets ... For you Michael Bishop fans, the former Patriots backup quarterback has a tryout with the New York Giants today.
