Clubs

By David Wildman, Globe Correspondent, 12/2/2001

Auto Interiors - These mesmerizing trance-rockers are the quintessential Allston band - two of the members even work at the Newbury Comics warehouse. They buy their clothes dirt cheap at the Goodwill on Beacon Street and drink at The Model. All members grew up with a strong Pink Floyd habit, and it certainly shows in their classic psychedelic approach. See them Tuesday with Matador Recording artists Aerogramme at The Middle East Upstairs, 472 Massachusetts Ave. in Central Square, Cambridge. Call 864-EAST.

Amelia White - She lives in Dorchester but manages to perform her quirky and intelligent country folk music all over the US, including her stronghold of Seattle. Also well known for presenting innovative country artists at various venues around town with her occasional series The Grand New Opry. Her new self-released CD is called ''Blue Souvenirs.'' See her with opener Pluto on Wednesday at The Kendall Cafe, 233 Cardinal Medeiros Way, Cambridge. Call 661-0993.

The Diamond Cutters - This group, made up of local rockers from The Shods and the Raging Teens, is a tribute act that performs the music of Neil Diamond. See them perform Thursday at 608 (formerly Lillies), 608 Somerville Ave., Somerville. Call 617-591-1661.

The Boston Cecilia - Actually a Brookline-based opera and classical music company now in its 126th season, The Boston Cecilia performs all over the city. Not exactly a stuffy old company, its upcoming performances will include Purcell: Music for the Theatre, Church, Court, and Pub. Currently the group is presenting Christmas Britten & Britain, carols from composer Benjamin Britten mixed with holiday songs from the British Isles. Shows are Sunday, 3 p.m. at All Saints Church in Brookline, and Friday, 8 p.m. at Church of The Advent in Boston. Tickets run from $11 to $60. Call 232-4540.

The Eric Zinman Trio - A free jazz combo headed by pianist Zinman that also features a pair of highly respected 62-year-olds in the rhythm section: bassist John Voigt, a North Cambridge resident who has played with everyone from Charles Mingus to Captain Kangaroo; and drummer Laurence Cook, who has worked with The Brecker Brothers, Paul Bley, and Bill Dixon. The show is Saturday, 8 p.m. at Zeitgeist Gallery, 312 Broadway, Cambridge. Suggested donation is $10. Call 876-2182.
