Which Gen Ed Requirements Should I Follow?

Rule for Non-Transfer Students:

If you matriculated UMass Lowell as a non-transfer student, follow this rule:

If you matriculated before Fall 2000, follow the old Gen Ed requirements (AE, 2 BS, LT, etc.).  If you matriculated Fall 2000 or later, follow the new Gen Ed requirements (3 SS, 3 AH, etc.).

Rule for Transfer Students:

If you matriculated UMass Lowell as a transfer student, follow these rules:

If you matriculated before Fall 2000, follow the old Gen Ed requirements.

If you matriculated Fall 2000 or Spring 2001 with  0-24 credits, follow the new Gen Ed requirements.
If you matriculated Fall 2000 or Spring 2001 with 25 credits or more, follow the old Gen Ed requirements.

If you matriculated Fall 2001 or Spring 2002 with  0-54 credits, follow the new Gen Ed requirements.
If you matriculated Fall 2001 or Spring 2002 with 55 credits or more, follow the old Gen Ed requirements.

If you matriculated Fall 2002 or Spring 2003 with  0-84 credits, follow the new Gen Ed requirements.
If you matriculated Fall 2002 or Spring 2003 with 85 credits or more, follow the old Gen Ed requirements.

If you enter Fall 2003 or later (until the new Gen Ed requirements are replaced), follow the new Gen Ed requirements.

Some transfer students have followed the (published!) policy that any student entering Fall 2000 or later should follow the new Gen Ed requirements.  If the above rules for transfer students declare that you should follow the old Gen Ed requirements, but you have been following the new ones because you matriculated Fall 2000 or later, petition your department's undergraduate coordinator to follow the old requirements.

The Computer Science Ethics Requirement

The CS Ethics Requirement applies to students following both the old Gen Ed requirements and the new Gen Ed requirements.  See PolicyStatements/Ethics.html for details.
